Park on a Driveway, Drive on a Parkway...

We had our driveway capped this weekend. See, our insurance company wrote us a letter back in October, telling us we had to repair/reseal our driveway. We had contractors come out and give estimates for resealing and most told us that the driveway really needed to be capped. We knew this but didn't have the $2500 they wanted to cap it...and didn't want to spend the $500 they wanted to seal it. After a while we finally found someone to do the job...but with rain and his endless list of excuses and our upcoming deadline to get the job done we had to move on..

So with no one chomping at the bit to do our driveway we started the repairs ourselves...Ian patched up the driveway, we got crack seal...we were going to seal it ourselves next weekend...and magically, on Friday morning, a man appeared in our driveway...he offered us a fantastic deal and we got the driveway capped. He was doing our neighbors...had the equipment, was ordering the asphalt...could get it done that day. After some awesome negotiating skills (go Ian) we had a price we couldn't refuse...I wish we had the original bill for the driveway--I bet we paid less! OK maybe not...1962 was a different time.

Here's the best part--not only did we get a great deal...seriously, we stole this driveway job...but when I called our insurance company to let them know that we did one better than a sealant--we capped it--They kindly let me know that someone had already been out on June 2nd (long before we started any repairs) and decided the driveway was fine. In order to help preserve the economy, and save paper and a stamp, they neglected to let us know that we were off the hook.

We're still a little...miffed...about that and we're not sure if we're going to ignore it or "handle" it...but hey, at least we have a really nice driveway!
